Can You Find True Love On Reality TV
It may be producers getting fed up with overpaid and temperamental actors or America’s obsession with the genre but it seems that every season there are less scripted programs and more reality shows. Most reality shows involve competition and elimination culminating in a big prize. The prize can be money, fame or even love.
Dating centered competition programs aren’t a new genre. The Dating Game first aired in 1965 with three contestants vying to win a date or even love. Today’s dating shows take the concept a step further. Contestants are often challenged physically or mentally and sometimes both with the loser being ejected from show or placed on some type of jury.
Is it possible to find a soul mate on one of these shows? Judging from past seasons of shows such as the Bachelor, For Love or Money and Temptation Island the odds aren’t good. These shows haven’t produced many long-term relationships.
Other competition shows that were not dating related have resulted in some love matches however. The most well known pair is former Survivor contestants Amber and Rob. The couple avoided elimination and were the sole survivors of their season when Amber was handed the prize and Rob proposed marriage on the cast reunion show.
